Our school has launched a foodbank to support vulnerable people as part of the Star Academies Coronavirus Appeal.
Staff have been working hard to collect donations for the foodbank, which is operating out of the Star Family Hub at the school. The hub has been set up to help support the local community during the coronavirus crisis and will provide food, toiletries, cleaning supplies and stationery to those in need.
The foodbank is open between 12-2pm, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, at the school site on Hendford Drive and will provide help to those in need in the local community.
The school has also been supporting its pupils by making weekly wellbeing phone calls to all its families and helping those in need of further support. Staff from the school have delivered nearly 100 food packs to local families who are struggling to afford the basics during the coronavirus crisis.
Ann Winter, Principal at Barkerend Primary Leadership Academy, said:
“I am very proud of the work our school is carrying out in response to the coronavirus crisis. Our staff are caring and generous individuals who are working around the clock to provide support to those in need in our local communities. We are continuing to increase our provision for vulnerable people and would be grateful to anyone who is able to make a donation.”
The coronavirus fundraising appeal is just one of several initiatives that has been launched by Star Academies and its schools to help those facing difficulties in our local communities and to support parents and carers throughout the country.
A telephone helpline, Starline, has been launched to help give practical education advice to parents and carers and a YouTube broadcast StarLive is broadcast weekly to help parents as they educate their children at home.
