World Book Day may have been temporarily postponed due to the snow, but that didn’t stop our pupils from participating in a poetry competition based on the illustrated series, ‘Where’s Wally?’, a perennial favourite with children across the country. Pupils from reception to Year 6 completed a piece of writing about the much-beloved puzzle books, and their efforts were rewarded by a visit from the Lord Mayor, Councillor Abid Hussain, who visited the Academy to present awards to the competition winners.

12 children from each key stage were shortlisted for the quality of their work, and each child was presented with a certificate and a ‘Where’s Wally?’ book by the Mayor. From these 12 children, four overall winners were selected – one from each key stage – and they received a medal for their efforts.

Teacher Robana Yousef said,

“The event was a resounding success as children were talking about it throughout the day – during playtime, lunchtime and at home time. Children were clearly proud of their achievements and enjoyed listening to the Mayor’s message highlighting the importance of education and working hard.”
